My Thoughts On: Meet Me At The Lake by Carley Fortune.My Thoughts On: The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez.My Thoughts On: The True Love Experiment by Christina Lauren.There are quite a lot of TW/CW for this one so I’m probably missing some here, but the big ones that stood out to me include violence, murder, death, human trafficking, kidnapping/abduction, drugging, and discussion of sexual assault and rape. But overall, a super fast and entertaining read that was a complete escape from real-life. It also ends on a cliffhanger which I was not expecting since it’s categorized as a romance. I could have done with less description there. It helped that the action started right away and there wasn’t a lot of buildup or backstory. I listened to the audiobook and flew through it.
So color me surprised when I realized I was enjoying a paranormal story! HALFWAY TO THE GRAVE is about a 1/2 vampire 1/2 human heroine who joins up with the vampire hero to, you guessed it, hunt vampires. There’s nothing wrong with cilantro, lots of people like cilantro, it’s just not something I enjoy the taste of. The best way I can explain it is by comparing it to my feelings towards cilantro. Mostly because they tend to be scary or gory and I’m a scaredy-cat with a queasy stomach. Paranormal stories/shows/movies are not something I’m typically drawn to. We wanted to branch out and try a new sub-genre and decided on this paranormal romance.
HALFWAY TO THE GRAVE by Jeaniene Frost was a book club pick for my in-real-life (well, virtual right now) romance book club. Now Cat will have to choose a side … and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat. But before she can enjoy her status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. She’s amazed she doesn’t end up as his dinner – are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn’t have to be all bad. In exchange for help finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. Then she’s captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unlikely partnership. Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father – the one responsible for ruining her mother’s life.
